When to See a Cardiologist — 8 Signs That Warrant Prompt Evaluation

Not every cardiac symptom presents dramatically. Many patients delay seeking a cardiology evaluation because their symptoms seem vague or manageable. These 8 presentations warrant an FHVI evaluation — sooner rather than later.

  • Chest pain, pressure, tightness, or discomfort — during activity or at rest
  • Shortness of breath — especially with mild exertion or when lying flat
  • Heart palpitations, racing heart, or skipped beats lasting more than a few seconds
  • Unexplained fainting or near-fainting episodes
  • Leg pain, cramping, or heaviness when walking (possible PAD)
  • Leg swelling — particularly if sudden or one-sided
  • High blood pressure not responding to primary care treatment
  • Strong family history of early heart disease, sudden cardiac death, or stroke
